The 2026 equipment market continues to show strength across North America. In this mid-year update, Steffes Auctioneers shares insights into construction, transportation, and agricultural trends and what they mean for buyers and sellers navigating today’s auction market.

Mid-Year 2026 Market Update: Strength Across Construction, Transportation & Agriculture

The first half of 2026 has shown remarkable strength across the construction equipment market across the United States and Canada. Despite ongoing conversations around interest rates, inflation, and broader economic uncertainty, the used equipment auction market has remained steady through the first half of the year. From our vantage point at Steffes Auctioneers, contractors and fleet owners continue to prioritize late-model, well-maintained equipment, especially from one-owner fleets with strong service histories. This supports strong participation levels and healthy pricing across many construction categories.

We are seeing strong demand in earthmoving equipment, support equipment, trucks, trailers, and specialized contractor assets. Contractors remain busy across infrastructure, road building, utility, energy, and site development projects throughout North America.

The transportation sector has also remained resilient. While some over-the-road categories have softened, we continue to see strong buyer demand for clean vocational trucks, construction-related transportation assets, and specialized trailers tied to construction and energy sectors.

That same focus on quality, reliability, and strong ownership history is also carrying into the Canadian agricultural equipment market.

The Canadian agricultural equipment market has carried strong momentum into the summer 2026, despite a slower start to the growing season earlier this year. Heavy winter snowfall and cooler spring conditions created challenges in some regions, but producers have pushed forward, and overall confidence throughout the agricultural sector has remained very positive.

As crops begin to emerge and fields across Western Canada turn green, the used equipment market continues to show impressive strength. We are still seeing healthy buyer demand for quality late-model agricultural equipment including tractors, combines, air seeders, sprayers, grain handling systems, and support equipment. Well-maintained, one-owner equipment continues to perform especially well in the auction environment.

One of the biggest themes we continue to see this summer is the importance of reliability and efficiency. Producers remain focused on equipment that is ready to go to work when needed, especially during shorter operating windows. Buyers continue to be selective, but willing to compete aggressively for clean equipment with strong ownership and service histories.

Across both industries, one thing that has not changed is the importance of targeted marketing and timing when bringing equipment to market. Sellers benefit from working with auction professionals who understand how to position assets properly, tell the story behind the equipment, and connect directly with the right buyer base across both geographic and industry segments.

As we move into summer, the outlook across construction, transportation, energy-related sectors, and Canadian agriculture remains positive. At Steffes, we continue to see strong engagement from buyers across North America and remain optimistic about the opportunities ahead for both sellers and buyers in the used equipment marketplace.

Frequently Asked Questions

What construction equipment is in highest demand for mid-2026?

Earthmoving equipment, support assets, vocational trucks, and specialized trailers tied to infrastructure and energy projects see the highest demand. Buyers heavily favor late-model, one-owner equipment with detailed service records.

How is the 2026 agricultural equipment market performing in Canada?

The Canadian used agricultural equipment market shows strong summer momentum despite early-season weather delays. Buyers aggressively compete for efficient, field-ready tractors, combines, air seeders, and grain handling systems.

Why are buyers prioritizing one-owner equipment with service histories?

Buyers focus on reliability and minimizing downtime during short operational windows. A verifiable maintenance history reduces risk, making buyers willing to pay a premium for clean, well-documented assets.

What is the outlook for the used transportation equipment sector?

The transportation sector remains resilient but mixed. Standard over-the-road trucks have softened slightly, but specialized vocational trucks and trailers built for construction and energy work see strong buyer engagement.
